The growth of transportation demand in China's export container shipping market generally leveled off last week, but spot rates on the transpacific trades plunged and the Shanghai (Export) Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) issued by Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) fell by 3.2% to 861.55.

In the Asia to Europe route, spot rate from Shanghai to Europe (including seaborne related surcharges) was quoted USD774 per TEU, up by 3.6% from a week ago while spot rate in the Mediterranean route increased slightly by 0.6% week on week to $788 per TEU.

In the North America routes, export container rate from Shanghai to US west coast ports (including seaborne related surcharges) slashed by 7.3% to USD2,030 per FEU and to US east coast ports plunged by 7.8% to USD 3,136 per FEU, compared to the previous week.
