U.S. research company Descartes DataMyne recently unveiled that a total of 1,487,235 TEUs of containers were transported to the U.S. from 10 major countries and regions in Asia in July, which grew 6.4% from a year earlier and accomplished a year-on-year improvement for 17 months in a row. In the first seven months (January-July), 9,340,846 TEUs were moved on the trade in total, which swelled 7.1% to reach an all-time high.

By origin, 939,652 TEUs were shipped out of China, up 6.3%, holding the largest share of the pie, according to statistics compiled by Descartes DataMyne from Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) and bill of lading (B/L) data provided by the U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection (CBP). Ranked second were shipments from South Korea, which surged 12.9% to 150,924 TEUs. Taiwan was the third largest exporter, from which 80,377 TEUs were carried, up 15.9%. As for growing markets in Asia, containers from Vietnam, which finished in fourth place, soared 9.9% to 73,336 TEUs, enjoying a year-on-year increase for 17 months running. Coming in eights, those from India ballooned 32.4% to 37,704 TEUs. In contrast, exports from Japan were weak, falling 8.1% to 41,000 TEUs. Those from Hong Kong declined 4.7% to 67,905 TEUs

Containers transshipped in China, Singapore, Taiwan and other Asian economies have been increasing since March, and in July, they accounted for 25% of the total. Those from Japan transshipped in South Korea zoomed 52.8% to 10,230 TEUs, hiking year on year for the 11th consecutive month.
