Hong Kong’s Marine Department announced on July 17 that the Port of Hong Kong handled 1.662 million TEUs of containers in June (preliminary figures), which grew 0.2% from the corresponding month of 2016 and enjoyed a year-on-year improvement for the fifth consecutive month. The Kwai Tsing Container Terminal was responsible for 1.322 million TEUs, which increased 3.9%. In contrast, containers processed in mid-stream operations, at the River Trade Terminal and others plunged 12.1% to 340,000 TEUs in total, suffering the first year-on-year decline in five months.

In the first half (January-June), total throughput at Hong Kong improved 10.8% from a year earlier to 10.189 million TEUs. In breakdown, 8.042 million TEUs were transported to and from Kwai Tsing, which rose 11%, while others were as brisk, soaring 10.1% to 2.147 million TEUs.
