Container throughput in China was brisk in May. Ports in the nation handled a total of 20,383,800 TEUs of containers last month, which improved 10.9% from the corresponding month of 2016, according to the Ministry of Transport. Containerized shipments to and from coastal ports accounted for 18,100,300 TEUs, which surged 10.2%, while 2,283,600 TEUs were moved to and from inland river ports, which jumped 17%.

In the first five months (January-May), 94,233,100 TEUs were carried to and from China, which rose 8.5% year on year. In breakdown, coastal ports were responsible for 83,693,000 TEUs, which climbed 8.3%, while inland river ports processed 10,540,000 TEUs, which soared 15.6%.
