The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan will run a logistics pilot project for fiscal 2016 (April 2016-March 2017) in Myanmar. The ministry intends to modernize the logistics system of Myanmar through, among other achievements, improvements in the Southeast Asian nation’s capabilities of maintaining the quality of agricultural products and of adding higher value. To this end, it will take from Japan transport technologies that are developed with anti-vibration pallets and other logistics equipment as well as fruit sorters. Specifically, on June 23-July 5, locally harvested mangoes will be sorted and processed in Mandalay. On June 27-30, meanwhile, other local agricultural products will be transported on a trial basis from the Shan Hills—via National Highway 1—to Yangon under Japan’s high-quality logistics system and with Japan’s logistics equipment. On July 10-13, a similar trial will be carried out from Yangon to Bangkok, Thailand. The MLIT will analyze the project and find challenges to overcome to promote the transport of agricultural products in Myanmar.
