Containers from Japan to China soared 14.7% to weigh a total of 882,284 tons in February, enjoying the first year-on-year increase in eight months, according to a report on container movement (tonnage-based) between the economies unveiled on April 19 by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). On a value scale, they surged 15.3% to \547.3 billion. In the first two months (January-February), however, outbound containers between the nations diminished 2.5% from a year earlier to 1.628 million tons.

Containerized shipments from China to Japan, meanwhile, sank 17.7% to 1.525 million tons in total in the month in question, suffering a year-on-year contraction for the 12th consecutive month. The total price plummeted 22% to \1 trillion. Inbound container throughput incurred a double-digit decline in the first two months, falling 13.2% from the corresponding months of 2015 to 3.352 million tons.
