Container trade from 18 countries and regions in Asia to the U.S. increased 5.9% from a year earlier to 14,652,096 TEUs in 2014, reaching an all-time high for the time in seven years, or since 2007, according to a report released by the Japan Maritime Center (JMC). Containers from all but Hong Kong grew year on year; in particular, those from China, South Korea, Vietnam and India hit record highs.

The JMC report, complied from statistical data provided by the Port Import/Export Reporting Service (PIERS) of the U.S., said the exports from China rose 6.3% to 9,585,263 TEUs, accounting for some 65% of the total. Those from South Korea went up 4.4% to 747,084 TEUs; from Vietnam, up 10.2% to 698,965 TEUs and from India, up 14.7% to 530,590 TEUs.

Containers from Japan improved 3.7% to 652,936 TEUs, registering the first year-on-year improvement in two years.
