The Port of Busan in South Korea processed a total of 1,509,634 TEUs of containers in September, which grew 6.7% from a year earlier, according to a report compiled by the Busan Port Authority (BPA). Exports and imports hiked 4.4% to 749,875 TEUs, while transhipment (T/S) containers rose a more favorable 9.2% to 759,760 TEUs.

Throughput at the nation’s largest container port complex, which exceeded the 1.6-million-TEU line for the first time in its history, remained at high levels, totaling over 1.5 million TEUs for seven months in a row.

In the first nine months (Jan-Sept), Busan handled 13,702,654 TEUs in total, which improved 5.8% year on year.

Looking at the September total by complex, North Port was responsible for 541,377 TEUs, which went up 2.2%, and Busan New Port, for 967,901 TEUs, up 9.4%.
