South Korea’s Port of Busan handled a total of 1,531,301 TEUs of containers in August, according to the Busan Port Authority (BPA). Throughput at the nation’s largest container port complex enjoyed a year-on-year increase of 5.5% and exceeded the 1.5-million-TEU line for the fifth consecutive month. Growth was registered across the board, with export and import containers going up 2.3% to 751,097 TEUs in total and transshipment (T/S) containers, up 8.7% to 779,935 TEUs.

In the first eight months (January-August), Busan processed 12,193,020 TEUs, 65% of which were transported to and from Busan New Port, and the remaining 35% to and from North Port. The new port improved its presence, as the ratio was 62 % to 38% a year earlier. In terms of volume, Busan New Port was responsible for 1,003,693 TEUs, up 12.1%, and North Port, 527,339 TEUs, up 5.2%.
