Container trade between Japan and China declined in both directions in July. The Japan Maritime Center (JMC) recently unveiled that exports from Japan to China fell 5.3% from a year earlier to 997,412 tons, and that imports decrease 3.8% to 1,974,760 tons. On a value basis, in contrast, the route enjoyed improvements in both ways, the center added. Those from Japan to China amounted to \648.6 billion, going up 4.5%, and those from China to Japan, \1.143 trillion, up 9.6%.

The JMC also said that freight rates for container services from Yokohama to Shanghai continued to fluctuate between US$360 to $370 per TEU after reaching a peak in February.
