Global containerized exports for July made a slight 0.6% increase to 11,756,400 TEUs from June. July volumes were up 3.77% from a year ago, the seventh consecutive month where a year-on-year comparison shows positive advancement, according to statistics by U.K.'s Container Trades Statistics (CTS).

Total exports from Asia (including Intra-Asia) to all overseas markets monitored by CTS went up by 4.29% to 6,801,800 TEUs from July last year, maintaining their growth for the fifth consecutive month. Exports from Europe rose 2.75% year on year to 2,049,500 TEUs, the second highest box traffic following the May volume. Total exports from North America (including intra-North America) showed a negative growth of 1.52% from a year earlier to 1,176,300 TEUs, the first decline in the past four months.

In the opposite direction, containerized imports from all overseas markets into Asia continued their ascent. July figures show that total imports went up by 3.61% to 4,468,300 TEUs, compared to a year earlier, displaying positive growth for a seventh consecutive month. Imports into Europe went up 6.4% to 264,900 TEUs, a growth for five consecutive months. Containerized shipments into North America from overseas markets performed better than exports, up 6.36% on year to 2057,400 TEUs, hitting the 2 million-TEU mark for the first time.
