South Korea's Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has announced that containerized shipments handled at South Korea's seaports increased 3.4% from a year earlier to 1.995 million TEUs in July.

Import-export cargo increased 4.1% year on year to 1.218 million TEUs in the month while transhipment box traffic rose slightly by 1.8% from a year earlier to 829,000 TEUs.

In breakdown, the port of Busan handled 1.547 million TEUs, up 2.0% from the same month in 2013, followed Kwangyang Port which achieved 189,000 TEUs, down 0.5% year on year. Box throughput at the port of Incheon surged 18.9% o year to 206,000 TEUs against the background of a rapid increase in trade volumes to and from China and the Southeast Asian region.
