Containerized exports from Japan to China were sluggish in June, decreasing 5.5% year on year to 994,736 tons, according to a report on container movement between the nations. The Japan Maritime Center (JMC), which unveiled the report on August 12, said that in contrast, imports were brisk, improving 9% to 1,930,633 tons.

On a value scale, trade was favorable in both directions, with outbound shipments from Japan to China going up 1.4% to \626.5 billion and inbound containers, up 9.6% to \1.071 trillion.

Freight rates for services from Yokohama to Shanghai remained on a downward trend after peaking in February, fluctuating within a range of $360 to $370 per TEU. As for those for services from China to Japan, meanwhile, the China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) indicated they were on the rise for a while after the beginning of the year but continued to fall from April.
